There’s something truly special about the connections we make along the way—those little reminders of why we do what we do.
Meet Sophia, one of my favorite young visitors at the Dallas Farmers Market. She and her mom, Marty, stop by to see me almost every weekend. Over time, they’ve become more than familiar faces—they’ve become part of my Lil’ Marco and Friends family.
A few weeks ago, Sophia purchased Kindness, It’s In You. When she returned to the market recently, she couldn’t wait to tell me all about her first time flying on an airplane—a big adventure to Mexico! 🇲🇽 She even brought me back a thoughtful gift she picked out herself.
But then, her face dropped just a little. She told me she couldn’t find the signed copy of her book we shared such a special moment over. Before I could even think, I remembered a kind customer who had purchased a copy and asked me to donate it to a deserving child. Who better to gift it to than Sophia?
And just when I thought my heart couldn’t be fuller, Sophia asked me something that stopped me in my tracks:
“Can I interview you for my Black History Month project in February?”
She wanted to put in her request early.
That moment reminded me of something powerful:
When you lead with authenticity, kindness, and purpose—you never know who’s watching, learning, and being inspired by what you do.
Every smile, every story, and every connection matters. Sophia reminded me of that truth in the most beautiful way.
And here’s a gentle reminder for all of us: you don’t have to have children of your own to make a difference. Through Lil’ Marco and Friends, anyone can donate books that go directly to underrepresented schools and children who need them most.
Kindness really does come full circle.
